Beach or Bust 2018

The last part of 2018 really flew by, between a renewed commitment to my morning yoga practice, a hectic school and tutoring schedule,  and a full slate of social commitments!   So when I had the opportunity to take a holiday I seized it!

Varkala Beach

Blue Skies, and soft sand!

To make the most of my Christmas holidays, I planned an escape to the beach! Varkala Beach is definitely geared towards tourists, so I really just went for it, and embraced my inner beach bum, frolicking for hours in the rough sea, basking the glorious sun on the beach, attending morning and seaside yoga sessions, and dancing with a group of travelers as the sunset.  It was the perfect trip, and holiday to end the year!

After dark, the beach cliff is lined with restaurants all offering freshly caught fish for the seafood lovers out there. There were also multiple cafes offering a delicious combination of espresso drinks and cake. I of course opted to indulge in quite a few mochas (hot and iced).

Travel Tips:

To get to Varkala from Mysore, I boarded an overnight bus to Trivendrum, and took a train to Varkala. However, I recommend planning a little in advance, and flying to Kochi, or Trivendrum. Thw he bus trip was 14 hours through hills, so you can imagine how well I slept, especially on the ride back.

I stayed at the Lost Hostel, which was a very sociable and fun place to hang out. There was even a Secret Santa and Christmas Party on the 24th! From the hostel, it was easy enough to gather a group or branch out on your own to explore the (VERY) touristy and busy cliffs, or to just hang out on the beach. I also attended a lovely yoga class at Mad About Coco that was 300 RS for an hour long session.
