Sometime last year in a bout of doldrums, I realized that the one thing keeping me back was fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of being forgotten, and most of all the fear that maybe I was missing out on life (also known as FOMO). While fear can keep you safe, it is also an excuse to stay behind.
Well, somewhere along the way I decided that fear was not going to hold me back. So I faced my biggest fear: being lonely and away from home, and took off on my Solo Adventure. Armed with an extensive spreadsheet and a few contacts off I went to explore the world (or at least 6 cities in Europe).
In the three weeks, I spent a few days with friends and acquaintances, but for the most part, I was on my own. Left to my own devices, I walked for hours a day, tried every pastry and treat I came across, and struck up conversations with the other solo travellers. It was an amazing and freeing experience, and honestly while I had a few moments of loneliness, I found that these moments motivated me to go out and experience more. My fear was there but it was no longer holding me back.
My European Adventure was like a gateway drug, driving a desire for exploration and experiences away from home. I cannot wait to see what this next big adventure holds!
