I went for my first run in…over a month, in Bangalore. It went about as poorly as you might have guessed, but it felt good to move and run circles in a small park. Post-run my cousins and I enjoyed a tasty breakfast, where I opted for an onion dosa! Yum!
The “India Diet”
This dosa is one of the many treats I’ve indulged in during this trip. I have officially dubbed my current diet the “India Diet”. This involves filter coffee, chai, and any and everything that appears on my plate. Eating has become a central hobby, and I think in the past 5 weeks, I have eaten about 3 times my usual amounts of food. It is one of the hazards of staying with family, as it is hard (and rude) to refuse what ever if offered! I am sure that once my yoga course starts, some of these indulgences will stop, but until then…I am not done with this food adventure.
I met up with a friend on Monday for lunch and sampled some tasty Parsi food, including a really fantastic berry pulao and a sweet and refreshing raspberry soda. After a short walk, we continued our “food crawl” with creme brulee and a flourless chocolate cake at a cool little spot, that was painted white and decorated in sharpie!
Bangalore Literature Festival
My adventures into literature did not stop at a trip to the bookstore! Over the weekend, I attended Bangalore Lit Fest with my cousins. Of course we made a pit stop at a small artisan exhibition at Chitrakala Parishath. While we did not buy anything, it is always fun to browse and take in all of the handicrafts for sale!
The literature festival was a large festival, with 3 stages and a children’s’ area. They of course had a book tent, which included many of the books by authors attending the festival. The main draw on Saturday was cricket legend Anil Kumble, but there were many other panels as well. I particularly enjoyed a multi-lingual poetry reading, where authors read works in Kannada, English and Hindi.
Bannerghatta “Safari”
On my last day in Bangalore (for now) I went to Bannerghatta National Park, and explored the “Safari” and zoo!
After a never-ending lunch, we ventured to Lalbaugh, a giant park in the middle of Bangalore. As we strolled through the shady and beautiful park, I kept picturing the trip I made here as a child, pointing out the various places we have photos with my grandparents. A very satisfying end to my week in Bangalore.
Also, in case you missed it, I updated the last post to include more photos! So go check it out!
