New year, new country?
I arrived in Bangkok, in the predawn hours. After what felt like the most expensive taxi ride ever (not one but TWO highway tolls and an airport surcharge) to the hostel. I crashed, hard, head down, did not even stop to lock up my bag (I know that was foolish, but you try operating on 3.5 hours of interrupted sleep).
Waking at 9 am, refreshed, I showered and headed off in search of The Grand Palace. Wandering the crowded streets of Bangkok, was a bit overwhelming, but eventually I found the Wat Pho temple complex, and spent the next few hours lost in a maze of gardens, and buildings.
Admiring all of the intricate mosaics, statues and impressive golden Buddha statues. The main draw was the MASSIVE reclining Buddha statue.
Friends, Old and New
Then it was off, in another taxi ride, to meet up with Hana, a friend from Mysore. I will say, that meeting a friend was much welcomed, as Bangkok was getting rather overwhelming. After two peaceful month in Mysore, Bangkok felt noisy, crowded and a little too high energy.
Hana spent the afternoon at a tiny cafe near her hostel and then indulged in a relaxing hour at a massage parlor. It was my first Thai massage experience, and I opted for a head, neck and back massage, it left me feeling relax and ready to take on the city again.
The following day, I found a cute little vegetarian restaurant, and chatted with a couple from London as I enjoyed some green veggies and a tea!
I spent the rest of my time indulging in a spa day and relaxing, before catching an overnight bus to the next city: Chiang Mai (post to follow soon!)
